Samsung Galaxy S9 is launched, but we know almost everything about it. From camera to display to processor almost every detail of this device has. So we’re already in a position to analyze its strengths and weaknesses, which we’re gonna do in this article. So in this article, we are going to put light on Samsung Galaxy S9 pros and cons in detail.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Pros
Let’s take a look at the pros of Galaxy S9 first of all:
Snapdragon 845/Exynos 9810 Processor:
Samsung Galaxy S9 will come with latest Snapdragon 845/Exynos 9810 octa-core processor. These latest generation processors are more powerful than anything ever developed by Qualcomm and Samsung, so we expect considerable performance improvements in Galaxy S9 when compared against its predecessor.
Samsung has retained the same OLED display in Galaxy S9 that was seen in Galaxy S8. And since it was a great display, this can be considered a major advantage of the device. Plus, the bezels of Galaxy S9 also look even narrower (though not much in comparison to S8), so the whole screen looks quite compelling.
Variable aperture camera lens:
The device will come with a variable aperture camera capable of adjusting the lens in the fashion similar to that of DSLR cameras. That can allow the lens to be adjusted according to lighting conditions, thus resulting in better photos.
Samsung Galaxy S9 is also rumored to come with facial recognition feature Intelligent Scan, which will actually be a combination of facial recognition with iris scanning. So it can turn out to be better than Apple’s Face ID, but even if that’s not the case we can at least expect it to be more reliable than company’s iris scanners included in Galaxy S8.
It’s also rumored that Galaxy S9 will come with 3D emojis feature similar to Apple’s Animojis. However, Samsung’s feature will have some unique tricks up its sleeve. What tricks will they be is not known yet, but it feels good to hear that.
This will also be the first Galaxy S series flagship to come with stereo speakers. We can look forward to great audio quality in this device with help of two stereo speakers included in it.
Last, but certainly not least, we expect great battery life improvement in Galaxy S9. If a slightly bigger battery is combined with more power efficient Snapdragon 845 this can lead to a significant improvement in battery life.
Now let’s take a look on shortcomings of this device.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Cons
Despite all the good things mentioned above Galaxy S9 has also got two major shortcomings. They’re:
Single lens camera:
It feels bad to see that Samsung has still kept Galaxy S9 stuck at one camera lens. And to make things worse, Galaxy S9 Plus will come with dual lens camera. This kind of behavior with buyers of its most premium devices was unexpected from Samsung.
Another major shortcoming of Galaxy S9 is its RAM capacity. It feels sad to see that Galaxy S9 will come with 4GB of RAM at a time when 6GB is becoming more and more common in flagship smartphones. Company’s own Galaxy Note 8 had come with 6GB of RAM, and even Galaxy S9 Plus is gonna come with 6GB RAM. Why not Galaxy S9? Perhaps Samsung doesn’t think it important enough to have this thing.
The final picture of Samsung Galaxy S9’s pros and cons looks like this:
|Octa-core Snapdragon 845/Exynos 9810 processor||Single lens camera|
|Stunning display||4GB RAM|
|Variable aperture camera|
|Improved battery life|
Overall it’s a great device, but Samsung kept it from becoming greatest by limiting it to a single lens shooter and 4 gigs of RAM. Had it been free from these limitations, it would’ve been a truly remarkable flagship. What company has done instead is making Galaxy S9 Plus superior than it to earn more dollars, which is not a cool thing from the perspective of customer experience?
My 2 cents: you’ll be better off getting a Galaxy S9 Plus! Otherwise, if you’re hurt by what Samsung has done this time (copying Apple and making Galaxy S9 Plus much better than its sibling), you can also ditch Galaxy S9 lineup entirely and get iPhone X instead. At least it won’t make you regret with a single lens camera.
